We host educational programs throughout the year, from classes and hands-on workshops to a tour of the kitchen. For those interested in going deeper, we offer several intensive sessions, from one day to one week long, covering our nutritional and culinary practices, and our organizational and business model.

Bring all the flavors and textures of the season to your holiday table! Chaya-Ryvka Diehl, Founder of  Living Vision Kitchen will teach you step-by-step how to prepare nutrient-dense, grain-free and lower glycemic raw, vegan holiday desserts.

In the first class of our Holiday Dessert series, Chaya-Ryvka will demonstrate each step to create a gorgeous and delicious nutrient-dense and refined sugar-free dessert. These treats will satisfy even the most finicky of eaters (and they don’t need to know how healthy they are!). The class includes a detailed recipe packet to bring home, and of course samples of what is made in class.

 

Chaya-Ryvka Diehl is the Founder and owner of Living Vision Kitchen, a local Paleo-Vegan food line, serving Bay Area health food stores and cafes with plant-based, grain-free comfort foods. Chaya has been involved in creating and promoting “Food as Medicine” for well over a decade. She believes that our food can be supportive of our healing and health maintenance while still being delicious, comforting and beautiful.

A talk with TSH co-founder Porsche Combasch

How can you integrate the nutritional and culinary wisdom of Traditional Diets in your kitchen? Join Three Stone Hearth Co-founder Porsche Combash and find out! In this practical introduction to the Eleven Characteristics of Traditional Diets, which are the basis for how we prepare foods at TSH, you’ll learn how to make nourishing meals and snacks using pantry items available in our store.

Porsche will share quick and easy ideas to add deep nutrition to you and your family’s diet. Learn how to soak grains and beans to maximize nutrient availability, how to make soups using our bone broths as a base, how to make your own stock, incorporate liver into foods without freaking out picky eaters, and how to add fermented foods and cultured dairy into your diet. You’ll get to sample some of these foods as you discover how to optimize the vitamins, minerals and beneficial microorganisms they contain.

Class includes recipes and ideas for quick snacks and great meals...and lots of snacking!

 

Porsche Combash discovered the joys of real-food cooking in Berkeley at her grandmother side, and she’s brought that passion to 40 years of learning, working and leadership in the food business. She completed the Professional Chef Training Program at the Natural Gourmet Institute in NYC, interned at the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland and went on to teach at the Ballymaloe School of Cookery in Ireland. Porsche developed many of the recipes and techniques that are the foundation of Three Stone hearth’s kitchen production since our founding in 2006, and she’s recently taught at Bauman College of Holistic Nutrition and Culinary Arts.

Holiday Kimchi: Fermentation Gift Ideas (12/14/19, 10am - 12pm)

Want to give something creative and personal this year as a holiday gift but bored with your same old crafting ideas?

Spice up your DIY skills and learn to make classic spicy kimchi with TSH lead fermenter, Hanna Towers. At this session you will create your own custom batch of kimchi and leave with the skills necessary to make kimchi at home! If the idea of making your own kimchi intimidates you, don’t worry, under Hanna’s tutelage, you’ll develop the confidence to know what ingredients and techniques you need to transform a bowl of cabbage and spices into a robust probiotic condiment.

Each student will get a recipe and three jars of kimchi to ferment at home! ($30 value)

Hanna Towers is a lover of all things food and fermented, and has been creating them for more than a decade. Her interest with fermentation began with reading books on winemaking in sixth grade, to taking classes in food science in college. She loves coming up with exciting new flavor combinations for kombucha and fermented foods.

A Tour of the Three Stone Hearth Kitchen (11/14/19, 11am-12pm)

How did Three Stone Hearth come into being as the nation’s first Community Supported Kitchen? Why were we making bone broth, kombucha and using mason jars years before they became trends? What goes into making our foods?

Join Worker-Owner Linda Kallenberger and Hanna Towers for an introduction to our business model, and a tour of our kitchen and fermentation “lab.”

Cost is $10 per person and includes a “shot” of kombucha or sauerkraut brine. The tour is open to groups and the public. If you want a tour only for your group, please send an email to education@threestonehearth.com.

Chaya-Ryvka Diehl from Living Vision Kitchen will teach you how to make fresh young coconut yogurt from home. With only two main ingredients, this can become an easy and delicious way to incorporate dairy-free, probiotic-rich yogurt into your life! If you miss the Coconut Yogurt she was making and selling at TSH, now’s your chance to discover her secrets!

Learn how to open young coconuts, or source a quality frozen alternative, and how to prepare young coconut into a thick and creamy yogurt without any additional fillers or thickeners. This is an allergen-free alternative to traditional yogurt, rich in gut-healthy probiotics, and is a low glycemic option for those practicing a ketogenic lifestyle. It is allowed as part of the GAPS, AIP and low FODMAP diets.

You’ll get to sample this delicious yogurt in class and go home with a detailed recipe and instruction packet, including recipes for tasty, wholesome toppings and creative ways to use this yogurt for other simple and satisfying foods.

Up to four people can be accommodated in this arrangement. Once an arrangement has been made, you can return to this menu to pay the consultation fee.
